A planetarium is an intensive immersive experience. But as known, 50% of the experience and emotional impact is audio. Thus, there is a basic demand to have a capable immersive sound system in the dome as well as having content who fulfill what such system promise, that the experience in the dome becomes 100% emotional. The workshop offers insights about immersive audio challenges, solutions, workflows, production and tools including listening examples.

We will present our sequence "M1 a stellar autopsy (skysurvey)" which is the result of the workshop "L'astronomie en partage" (sharing astronomy). This 14' long sequence focuses on the Crab Nebula (M1) to take a step back on the astronomical images presented to the public, by using several sky surveys. We will describe it on the fly to highlight its various messages:

  • Scientists value information over aesthetics in the images they search to obtain;
  • A same object will have different names depending on its age, nature and the catalogs it belongs in
  • Notion of field of view and mosaic images
  • Massive star cycle of life and the formation of elements during their life and death.
