Semiramide, Queen of Babylon, has to choose a new consort now that she has killed her husband, King Ninus. She chooses the young commander Arsace, without knowing that he is her son, who was believed dead…

Being screened in cinemas for the first time, Rossini’s dramatic opera – one of the Italian composer's key works – is based on a tragedy by Voltaire, who was inspired by an Assyrian legend. A woman tormented by her past, unprepared for the present and contemplating a baleful future, this coveted role in the bel canto repertoire is reprised by the American Angela Meade, who is also making her silver screen debut!
