Energy up close - the ‘Experience Energy!’

The "Experience Energy!" permanent exhibition at the House of Energy has a clear goal: to give visitors a better understanding of the importance of energy and sustainability. It offers a variety of attractions, including an interactive model where visitors can actively participate in supplying the city of Lucerne with renewable energy. Particularly impressive is the digital globe, which vividly illustrates how our energy consumption directly impacts the planet's climate.

At the beginning of April, the "Experience Energy!" permanent exhibition was opened in the presence of National Council President Martin Candinas and energy pioneer Bertrand Piccard. The exhibition aims to provide a low-threshold, playful approach to engaging with energy issues and offers a variety of attractions: Visitors can use their own muscle power to generate energy and lift a concrete block. In an interactive model, they can actively participate in supplying the city of Lucerne with renewable energy. Bertrand Piccard, depicted as a hologram, takes visitors on a journey to the year 2050 to showcase what the energy system of the future could look like. A highlight of the exhibition is an impressive digital globe, which vividly illustrates how energy use directly impacts the Earth's climate.

Everyday Actions Have an Impact
Energy and sustainability are at the heart of the Energy Hall. The exhibition initially launched with a technical focus, highlighting technologies that enable the transition to a renewable energy system: renewable energy sources such as wind, sun, and water, storage technologies like batteries and synthetic fuels, electromobility, and many more. In the next phase, the focus will shift more towards social issues, particularly resource consumption and sustainable behavior in everyday life. These aspects are closely linked to energy and allow visitors to relate them directly to their own lives. Personal mobility habits also play a crucial role in this. By making conscious choices in transportation, each individual can contribute to a sustainable future.

Workshops for School Classes Starting in October
Children and young people are an important target group when it comes to energy and sustainability. Starting in October 2023, special workshops for school classes will be offered alongside the exhibition. In these workshops, students will have the opportunity to build their own small solar-powered House of Energy. Additionally, the Transport Museum’s career parcours leads through the Energy Hall, showcasing various professions in the energy sector. The goal is to introduce as many young people as possible to careers in the energy industry and inspire them to pursue them.

"Experience Energy! – Together for a Sustainable Future"
The "Experience Energy!" exhibition, along with the planned workshops and future events, aims to foster dialogue between science, politics, and society. Our goal is to contribute to the promotion of a renewable energy future and sustainable mobility. Given the challenges ahead, we firmly believe that we can only overcome them together. So why not consider a visit to the Swiss Museum of Transport, get inspired, and actively help shape the future?
