New pricing structure

02.01.2018

The Swiss Museum of Transport launched a new pricing structure on 1 January 2018. The main two new features are a day pass and a student/apprentice rate. Attractive children’s prices replace the old family ticket. The simplified pricing structure is a response by Switzerland’s most-visited museum to the impact of social change on the family structure, and a desire to optimise the overthe-counter, online and international ticketing processes. The new pricing structure is leading to shorter sales conversations at the museum’s admissions tills, and hence reduced waiting times.

The Swiss Museum of Transport first introduced its family ticket 15 years ago. It was based on the traditional notion of the family. Over time, it became clear that convoluted conversations at the ticket counter regarding the definition of the family were leading to lengthy queues. Moreover, modern-day family circumstances were making online purchasing difficult. Patchwork/blended and rainbow families are now an everyday reality. Parents may not be living at the same address as their children. Small families are in the majority, while part-time employment means that father and mother often no longer take their children on outings together. What’s more, the family ticket was designed for two-parent families, which put singleparent families at a disadvantage. For all these reasons, the family ticket has been withdrawn and replaced by a simplified pricing structure. The new pricing model is based on a “one person, one admission” principle.

Day pass and attractive children’s prices
The new pricing structure now includes special rates for children (CHF 12 for the museum, CHF 7 for the attractions), a day pass, and a student/apprentice rate. The day pass covers admission not only to the museum, but also to the Planetarium, Filmtheater, Swiss Chocolate Adventure and Media World. Day pass holders can visit any of these attractions as often as they choose on the day of their visit. There is a choice of categories: adult, student/apprentice (under 26), child (under 16) and infant (under 6). Single admissions for infants to the museum remain free. “Families will always be a key target group for us,” says André Küttel, Head of Marketing and Sales.

Simplified pricing structure
The Swiss Museum of Transport’s new pricing structure comes into force on 1 January 2018. A new single price applies to the attractions (Planetarium, Filmtheater, Swiss Chocolate Adventure, Media World).

The simplified pricing structure means visitors can be served more quickly. Online ticket sales are simpler and more flexible. Tour operators from abroad will find the new structure easier to navigate and sell on.
