Transport Collection of National Importance
The Swiss Museum of Transport has set itself the task of collecting and preserving the key technologies in transportation since the 19th century and making them accessible to a broad public. Since the museum was founded in 1959, the responsible board of trustees has constantly and prudently expanded the collection. The most important milestones in the development of mobility in our country can be found in the national transport collection. It is of national and in many parts even international importance.
Inclusion criteria for new properties
Criterion 1
The object must have been produced, modified and/or used in Switzerland.
Criterion 2
The object must represent an important technical, social, economic and cultural development or/and have been widely used.
Criterion 3
The object can also exemplify a failed vision of technical mobility development; to a certain extent as an expression of the non-linear development of history.
The Swiss Museum of Transport collects historical milestones and individual objects in series that enable important developments to be retraced in several stages.
