Age recommendations/guidelines

We recommend a visit to the Filmtheatre (daytime programme), the Planetarium (daytime programme) and the Swiss Chocolate Adventure from the age of 6 and over. The specific age recommendations for each show can be found in the relevant descriptions on this website. The museum is also suitable for younger children. Detailed age recommendations/guidelines are noted on site. The age restriction for VR simulations is 12 years, based on expert recommendations.

Accessibility

The museum, the Planetarium, the Filmtheatre and the Swiss Chocolate Adventure are wheelchair accessible. We are also a partner of OK:GO. Further information on accessibility can be found here.

Two wheelchairs are available to borrow from the ticket office. For the Swiss Chocolate Adventure, Planetarium and Filmtheatre, we recommend reserving tickets by telephone the day before.

The museum and the Swiss Chocolate Adventure are also suitable for visitors with visual or hearing impairments.

There are four disabled parking spaces in front of the main entrance. Accessible toilets with grab rails are also available in the Museum of Transport.

With a valid disability ID card, you will receive a 10% discount at the ticket office on the museum, Planetarium, Filmtheatre and Swiss Chocolate Adventure. In addition, one accompanying person is free for each eligible person.

Electric cars and charging stations

There are three electric fast-charging stations in front of the entrance at Lidostrasse 5. The maximum charging time is 90 minutes. Further information on the current use of the charging stations can be found here.

Entry prices

Entry to the museum costs:

  • Adults: CHF 35
  • Students/apprentices under 26: CHF 25
  • Children under 16: CHF 15
  • Infants under 6: free

The Filmtheatre, the Planetarium and the Swiss Chocolate Adventure are not included in the museum ticket.

A day pass entitles you to enter the museum and to visit the Filmtheatre, the Planetarium and Swiss Chocolate Adventure at any time. A day pass costs:

  • Adults: CHF 62
  • Students/apprentices under 26: CHF 46
  • Children under 16: CHF 29
  • Infants under 6: CHF 12

Film and photo shoots

Filming and photography is permitted in all areas accessible to visitors (exception: Filmtheatre and Planetarium). The recordings may be used for private purposes. For commercial filming or photography, please contact the media office.

Luggage

Luggage can be deposited in the lockers provided next to the ticket office or at the entrance to the Planetarium (deposit CHF 2).

Pets

Pets are not permitted in the museum, not even in carriers or handbags. Assistance and guide dogs that are marked accordingly may be taken into the museum.

Parking

Public parking spaces are available around the museum. Please observe the relevant parking signs. There are four disabled parking spaces and three electric charging stations directly opposite the main entrance.

 

Picnics

Eating and drinking is not permitted in the exhibition spaces. However, there are designated picnic areas outside where you can take a break in a relaxed atmosphere. There is also a train carriage where you can stay warm and dry while you eat in poor weather.

Wheelchairs

Two wheelchairs are available for hire at the Museum of Transport. Reservations can be made by telephone on 041 375 75 75.

Restaurants

The Swiss Museum of Transport is home to the Brasserie, the Mercato self-service restaurant and the Café Bar. You do not need a ticket to visit the restaurants. 

Boat

The Swiss Museum of Transport can also be reached by boat (jetty: "Verkehrshaus-Lido"). Timetables can be found at lakelucerne.ch.

Lockers are available in the entrance area (deposit CHF 2).

You must be 1.40 metres tall to use the flight simulators.

Payment methods

Swiss francs (CHF) and euros (EUR) are accepted at the cash desk. Change is given in Swiss francs. The following payment methods are accepted: MasterCard, VISA, American Express, EC, Maestro, myOne, Postcard, Reka-Cheques (no change) and TWINT.
