Serge Brignoni
Special exhibition from 29.10.2019 - 18.03.2020
For the first time in over ten years in German-speaking Switzerland, the Hans Erni Museum is once again showing the work of Erni's generation mate Serge Brignoni (1903-2002). With over 60 loans from public and private collections, the entire breadth of Brignoni's oeuvre can be experienced: from the early paintings inspired by Cubism and Pittura metafisica, to the surrealist paintings and sculptures, to the late, colorful Métamorphoses, his oeuvre is juxtaposed with selected works by Hans Erni. Brignoni's collecting and research activities on oceanic art will also be made tangible through loans from the MUSEC - Museo delle Culture, Lugano.
An exhibition of Serge Brignoni's paintings, drawings and sculptures in dialog with selected works by Hans Erni is therefore an obvious choice, as Brignoni's and Erni's biographies are related: Both gathered their first artistic impressions early on in Berlin, for example, before moving to Paris, where they came into close contact with the avant-garde there and exhibited with the abstraction-création group. Like Erni, Brignoni also worked on the design of the 1939 national exhibition and was a member of the "Allianz" group co-founded by Erni. The exhibition is accompanied by a program of events with guided tours and lectures.
