Exoplanets with Prof Didier Queloz

In 1995, the then still young astrophysicist Didier Queloz, together with Michel Mayor, made a scientific discovery of historic significance: for the first time, a planet orbiting a star outside our solar system was detected. This pioneering achievement marked the beginning of a new era in astronomy - exoplanet research.

On 9 May 2025, Prof. Dr Didier Queloz visited the Planetarium as part of the Planetarium Lectures.

Prof Queloz in conversation

Since this breakthrough, Queloz has dedicated himself to the question of how planetary systems form, how they develop and how they can be compared with our own solar system. A particular focus of his work is the continuous development of measurement methods and instruments for the discovery and characterisation of exoplanets. In 2019, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics together with Michel Mayor for his outstanding contributions in this field.
