The legendary Gotthard Railway model is back at the Swiss Museum of Transport - bigger
bigger, more modern and more impressive than ever.

In 2020, the Gotthard Railway model had to make way for the construction of a new multi-purpose building. Now, after extensive transformation, it is back in the center of the Swiss Museum of Transport and fascinates young and old alike with its impressive attention to detail and technology.

A masterpiece of volunteer work

Under the motto "Combining the old with the new", the Gotthard model building group, led by Emil Galliker, has further developed the Gotthard Railway model with great attention to detail. The team consists of 20 dedicated members of the Lucerne Railway and Model Making Friends and the Rothenburg Railway Model Making Friends. Together, they invested over 12,000 hours of voluntary work to create this masterpiece.

How you can support the project

Numerous Swiss Museum of Transport members, donors, sponsors and supporters have made the transformation of the Gotthard Railway model possible. We are still dependent on support for the maintenance and operation of the installation. You can make an important contribution with a donation.

1 running meter corresponds to a donation of CHF 200. The zero meter is at Erstfeld station. A total of 1,000 linear meters of track will be installed.
