Synthetic material Plastic
Special exhibitions from 26.11.2020 - 25.04.2021
Plastic is the material of the 20th and 21st centuries!
Shapeable and colorable, hard or soft, solid or thin - its low price and versatile usability have allowed it to penetrate all areas of life over the past decades.
As a result, it found its way into the visual arts early on in the 20th century and has since been used by many artists in very different ways. The varied exhibition shows this with many high-quality examples from the early 20th century to the present day. They make use of the diverse material properties, but also highlight the dangers of synthetic materials for people and the environment.
The exhibition is thus based on the Swiss Museum of Transport's theme for the year, "Logistics", where plastic plays a major role as an omnipresent packaging material. On the other hand, due to the environmentally hazardous nature of the material, it refers to Hans Erni's commitment to nature and environmental protection.
