Historical Archive of Swissair

Around 20 years ago, the Swiss Museum of Transport was able to take over part of the company archive of Swissair, which went bankrupt in 2001. Specifically, these are files from the so-called "Historical Archive of Swissair", in which various documents relating to the history of the airline had been collected. They represent a valuable source material for the development of Swissair and for the history of Swiss aviation in general.

In total, the documents taken over by the Swiss Museum of Transport comprise around 160 archive boxes, the exact contents of which could only be roughly recorded until now. As part of the "Historical Archive of Swissair" project, the archives are now being indexed in detail. At the same time, the archives are being removed from their old original containers and repacked in acid-free archive material. During the repackaging process, minor conservation measures are carried out (dry cleaning, removal of damaging materials).

The aim of the project, which has been running since January 2024, is to make the collection accessible to an interested public and ensure its long-term preservation.

The project is made possible thanks to funding from the Accentus charitable foundation (Max-Robert-Kobelt Fund).
