In 1847 - 175 years ago - the Swiss Northern Railway put the first Swiss railroad line into operation between Zurich and Baden. In 1947, the whole of Switzerland celebrated the centenary of the "Spanisch-Brötli-Bahn". The Swiss Federal Railways had a replica of the "Limmat" steam locomotive built especially for the occasion. The anniversary was also reason enough for Einsiedeln-born composer Artur Beul (1915-2010) to sing a song about the railroad. The former teacher wrote the music and lyrics for the foxtrot "s'Spanischbrötli-Bähnli". The Schmid siblings - Klärli, Werner and Willy Schmid - from Hägglingen
from Hägglingen recorded the piece on vinyl. The cover of the music booklet features an illustration of the train as well as a photo of Beul (left) and the Schmid siblings. The composer and the vocal trio had been working together successfully since 1941;
The two best-known works are "Nach em Räge schiint d'Sunne" and "Stägeli uf, Stägeli ab". Beul and the Schmid siblings enjoyed Europe-wide fame at this time, and even in the USA at the end of the 1950s as Trio Shmeed or Happy Yodlers.
