Sustainability

Sustainability is an important concern for the Swiss Museum of Transport. It is committed to shaping its influence positively both now and in the future and to taking ecological, social and economic aspects into account when making decisions. The Swiss Museum of Transport is currently developing a comprehensive sustainability strategy.

Flagship projects

House of Energy

The multi-purpose "House of Energy" building, which was commissioned in 2023, has a See-Energie central heating and cooling system. Since then, all buildings on the Verkehrshaus site have been heated and in some cases cooled with heat pumps. The old gas heating system now only serves as a reserve for peak loads and the temperature range. The roof and façade of the multi-purpose building are equipped with a photovoltaic system that supplies around 120,000 kWh per year – enough to cover the annual electricity requirements of around 30 households. This amount of energy not only contributes to the building's self-sufficiency, but also makes an important contribution to promoting a sustainable energy supply and reducing CO₂ emissions.

Experience Energy

With the "Experience Energy!" exhibition, the Museum of Transport offers an interactive approach to the topic of energy and shows what a sustainable energy supply can look like. As an extension of the exhibition, the "Climate and Energy" roadshow brings the topics of climate change, climate protection and mobility with renewable energy closer to school classes in the canton of Lucerne.

We are Swisstainable
