After years of anticipation, a truly unmissable event comes to cinemas worldwide on March 21, when the electrifying Lise Davidsen takes on one of the ultimate roles for a dramatic soprano: the Irish princess Isolde in Wagner's transcendent meditation on love and death. The heroic tenor Michael Spyres opposite Davidsen as the love-drunk Tristan. The event also marks the premiere of a new Met production by Yuval Sharon, whom the New York Times has called “the most visionary opera director of his generation” and who was the first American to stage an opera at the famous Wagner Festival in Bayreuth. Music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin also conducts Tristan und Isolde for the first time at the Met. Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova reprises her distinctive role as Brangäne alongside bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, who sings Kurwenal after acclaimed performances at the Met in Wagner's Der Fliegende Holländer and the Ring cycle. Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green makes an important role debut as King Marke. This live cinema broadcast is part of the Met's award-winning Live in HD series, which brings opera to cinemas around the world.
