I Puritani is an opera that is hard to beat in terms of melody, coloratura, and virtuoso vocal fireworks. On January 10, the first new Met production of Bellini's last masterpiece in almost 50 years will hit theaters—an impressive production by Charles Edwards, who is making his directorial debut after many successes as a set designer. The Met, under the direction of Marco Armiliato, has assembled a world-famous quartet of stars for the demanding leading roles. Soprano Lisette Oropesa and tenor Lawrence Brownlee are Elvira and Arturo, brought together by love and torn apart by the political upheavals of the English Civil War. Baritone Artur Ruciński plays Riccardo, who is engaged to Elvira against her will, and bass-baritone Christian Van Horn is Elvira's sympathetic uncle Giorgio. This live cinema broadcast is part of the Met's award-winning Live in HD series, which brings opera to cinemas around the world.
Please note: The opera begins at 18:55 and therefore starts at a different time than stated in the flyer.
