From September 4 - 14, 2025
The Ark Nova can be experienced for the first time in Switzerland from September 4 as part of the Lucerne Festival. It is a unique mobile concert hall developed by British-Indian artist Sir Anish Kapoor, Japanese star architect Arata Isozaki and Lucerne Festival director Michael Haefliger. Ark Nova was conceived in 2011 with the aim of contributing to cultural reconstruction in north-eastern Japan following the major tsunami disaster. It was set up and performed four times in Japan between 2013 and 2017, and now a fifth edition is coming to Lucerne. Lucerne Festival is bringing the Ark Nova to Europe in cooperation with the Swiss Museum of Transport. The impressive art object made of elastic plastic tarpaulin will be set up on the Lido meadow on the shores of Lake Lucerne.
For eleven days, Ark Nova will offer short concerts of various musical styles and events for audiences of all ages, as well as guided tours. These complement the top-class classical music program of the Lucerne Festival, which takes place in parallel on the other side of the lake until 14 September at the KKL Lucerne.
Special guided tour with dinner:
Take a look behind the scenes of Ark Nova in the unique exhibition "Sculpture and Architecture, Work of Art and Concert Hall" at the Hans Erni Museum. Curated by Heinz Stahlhut and followed by culinary accompaniment from the BRASSERIE team at the Swiss Museum of Transport.
