After triumphant Live in HD appearances in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, Verdi’s La Traviata, and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Nadine Sierra reaches another summit of the soprano repertoire as Amina, who sleepwalks into the hearts of the audience in Bellini’s moving tale of lost and rediscovered love. In his new production, Rolando Villazón – a tenor who has launched a brilliant second career as a stage director – preserves the opera’s original Alpine setting, but uses the sleepwalking plot to explore the emotional and psychological valleys of the human mind. Tenor Xabier Anduaga plays Amina’s fiancé Elvino, soprano Sydney Mancasola her rival Lisa, and bass Alexander Vinogradov is Count Rodolfo. Riccardo Frizza conducts one of opera’s most enchanting works, which will be broadcast live from the Met stage to cinemas on October 18. This live cinema broadcast is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing operas to cinemas around the world.
