Space Rhythms - Physics at CERN with Prof. Dr. Joachim Mnich
18.10.2025 Start: 18:00

A unique work of media art awaits you in the planetarium: luminous images and captivating sounds in a huge dome projection with surround sound. "Space Rhythms" is an art that uses space and time in a special way to create a unique aesthetic experience. Immerse yourself in a world full of colors and sounds that will amaze you and create unforgettable experiences.

As part of "Space Rhythms", Prof. Dr. Joachim Mnichs will give a lecture on his research at CERN:

The question of the fundamental building blocks of matter and the interactions between them is one of the big, fundamental questions that have always preoccupied people. Research into what holds the world together at its core has been conducted at CERN in Geneva for over 70 years.

What do we know today about matter in the universe and how do we know it? What do we not know and how do we know what we do not know? The lecture also includes an excursion into research at CERN, the large particle accelerators and detectors, and the significance of high-tech innovations for basic research and society.

Prof. Dr. Joachim Mnich's career at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, began over 30 years ago. In his research in the field of particle physics, he has been a senior scientist at DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron) since 2005 and Director of Research and Computing at CERN since 2021. In this position, he is involved in the development of detectors and future experiments at CERN.
