Special exhibition "Tour de Sol"

The first Tour de Sol rolled through the country 40 years ago. It aroused considerable interest among experts and the general public alike. A special exhibition at the Swiss Museum of Transport presents around 20 original solar-powered vehicles that took part in the races between 1985 and 1993.

The "Tour de Sol" in 1985 was a pioneering achievement that caused an international sensation and put the spotlight on Swiss innovation in the field of solar technology and electromobility. 40 years later, the Swiss Solar Energy Society (SSES) and the Swiss Museum of Transport look back on this milestone and show how groundbreaking the developments of that time are for today's mobility.

The new special exhibition "Tour de Sol" commemorates the world's first solar car race, which took place in Switzerland between 1985 and 1993. Around 20 original solar vehicles - from sleek racing models to prototypes suitable for everyday use - impressively illustrate the innovative power of that time. The exhibition explains how these ideas influenced the development of modern electromobility, what technical challenges were overcome - and why many questions remain relevant to this day.
